January Consolidation

Hive 2 is no more, queen gone small bunch of dead bees. Removed 10 frames of honey and installed on hive 1.

Hive 2 is dead. Disamantled and placed 10 frames of honey on hive 1.

Hive 1 received honey plus sugar candy.

Added honey super to hive two, configuration is as follows.

C – Honey super, full and capped

H – New honey super no wax or honey

B – Hive body, good brood w/ number of drone cells

E – Hive body, did not check

Observed

  • Uncapped honey in honey super E
  • Fresh even brood and honey in main hive body B
  • Large number of bees with activity outside of hive
  • no visabile ant activity
  • Winter moth is attacking maple tree above hives

Actions

  • Installed queen excluder between  main hive body B and honey super E
  • removed weeds around base of hive

Hive Two Inspection

Observed:

  • Ants in upper honey super
  • No comb production in lower honey super
  • fresh brood on several frames

Actions:

  • moved super D with comb/ants placed to hive one
  • removed queen excluder

Need to replace queen excluder in 4 days
